Google introduced a powerful update for Gmail users on iOS, allowing them to interact with their emails through Gemini, Google’s AI-powered assistant. With this new feature, users can ask Gemini questions about their inbox without needing to leave the Gmail app. This integration helps streamline the email experience by offering quick insights and summaries directly from within the app.

According to TechCrunch, This new functionality, known as “Gmail Q&A,” allows users to ask Gemini specific questions about their inbox, such as locating unread messages or filtering emails from particular senders. Additionally, the feature can summarize long email threads and help users find key information with just a few questions. This innovation is aimed at making email management faster and more intuitive for users who deal with a high volume of communication on a daily basis.

To access the feature, iOS users need to open Gmail and use the black Gemini star icon, which appears at the top of the app, or tap a “summarize this email” option when reading a message. Currently, the AI assistant only works within Gmail, but Google has plans to expand this feature to other services, such as Google Drive, in the future.

However, it’s important to note that not all Gmail users can immediately access this feature. The Gmail Q&A feature with Gemini is initially available only to Google Workspace customers who have specific add-ons, such as Gemini Business, Enterprise, or Education plans, or the Google One AI Premium subscription. Google has started rolling out the update, and it is expected to be fully available by October 18, 2024, for eligible users.

As of now, the service is only available in English and is exclusive to iOS users, though there are plans for broader availability down the road. This is yet another example of how Google is enhancing its services by embedding AI capabilities to help users interact with their apps in a more efficient and intelligent way.
